At a time when humans are transferring their consciousness to the virtual “New World", Chen Qi sets out in search of answers in the abandoned real world. Between dystopia and exploration.
What will tomorrow's society look like? With his first film, Chinese director Chen Xiang offers an immersive answer, at the crossroads of the climate crisis and technological dependence. In the future, the majority of the population has moved to a virtual “New World", maintained by “engineers” who hope to join them and desert the real world. Concerned about his role and his future, Chen Qi embarks on a journey of discovery through desolate landscapes and abandoned cities to find his mother and understand the world in which he still lives. With its refined artistic direction and unique atmosphere reminiscent of a gentle apocalypse, the film offers a disturbing, yet ironic, vision of the future of our connected societies.
