THE BRUTALIST X EIFFEL

In 1983, Danish architect Johan Otto von Spreckelsen was chosen, to everyone's surprise, by President Mitterrand to design the Grande Arche de la Défense. Take a look behind the scenes of this remarkable piece of history.

While some Parisian landmarks have already been featured in films, this was not yet the case for the Grande Arche, which hides a little-known history. At the end of a competition to select the architect for one of the biggest projects of François Mitterrand's term in office, the assembly was stunned to learn that a complete unknown, Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, had been chosen to lead the project. The Dane then had to overcome numerous professional and political obstacles to complete the construction of his “cube” according to his vision. The GIFF proudly opens by shining a light on a forgotten artist, whose story is brought to life by a prestigious international cast, including Claes Bang, Xavier Dolan, Swann Arlaud, and Michel Fau.
