MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE X LOVE, SIMON

Rock, faith, and rebellion: Zac grows up in conservative Quebec in the 1960s and 1970s, torn between his homosexuality and his need to be accepted. A coming-of-age story set to the music of Bowie, Aznavour, and Patsy Cline.

C.R.A.Z.Y.: Christian, Raymond, Antoine, Zac, and Yvan, five brothers united despite their differences. Acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, Jean-Marc Vallée's cult Quebec film traces two decades in the life of Zac, a child and then teenager in the throes of an identity crisis. Born into a traditional Quebec family in the 1960s and 1970s, he grows up trying to reconcile his homosexuality, his faith, and his desire to be accepted by his conservative father. The music —ranging from the classic Patsy Cline to the eccentric David Bowie— accompanies his torments and his impulses toward emancipation. Both intimate and universal, C.R.A.Z.Y. established Vallée on the international scene as a sensitive filmmaker exploring the quest for self, which he would continue to do in Dallas Buyers Club and Wild.
